Fine Dining in

LaGrange, Georgia

My father was an excellent chef and served as chef for country clubs, and public dining places in Texas and New Mexico.  I grew up around good food - and learned early in life to appreciate "fine dining."  My mom was also a wonderful cook, so my exposure was well rounded.  I knew this was a "good food" place the instant I tasted the meal before me...  I was not prepared for the delight from the wonderful choices of deserts at the end of a delightful meal!

While in Georgia recently I had the opportunity to dine in of the the state's excellent establishments, the Ou L'a L'a.  Directions

Located at 111 Main Street in LaGrange, Georgia just 1/2 block from the square.

Their products have been in some of America's finest catalogs under the catalogue name. From burgers to ribeyes you will fine food and prices that fit your taste and budget.   You may have see their "Yam Good Pie" on some of the Food Network shows.  Chef John daily cooks up decandent desserts and delightful handmade chocolates.  Just look at the photo above for a small sample of what Chef John cooks up daily!  One will fine true gorment Georgia dining in this unique establishment.  While seated among delightful antiques on various week-end nights there is live entertainment from the music community of LaGrange.  If that were not enough, daily they send out their famous pies over the nation and the world!  I hope to get to order a pecan and Yam Good Pie soon!

Here the owner, Anise Morrison, and chef John Bell, are addressing a group of visitors to their unique "house of flavors,"which is truly a culinary experience.   Annise's father, George started a journey in 1996 to prepare and bake the "best yam pie" with a perfect texture and taste.  His labor and passon produced the sweet potato yam pie that his now sold in the store and has reached national, if not world wide fame.

The menu changes on a regular basis, but the week we were in, among the entrees were Grilled Tiger Shrimp, Sea Bass, several cuts of ribeye, and an excellent choice of sandwiches, pizza, salads and burgers.  The Appetizer selection gives a wide choice from which to choose. While in the city visit the many enjoyable shops, etc. in the downtown area.  The theater below can be seen as you exit from your fine dining experience.  Dining and a movie in such an elequent place - that can't be beat for a "night out."

The LaGrange restored movie theater.

This approximately 1400-seat theater in downtown LaGrange opened in the 20s, and features a graceful Renaissance style facade, and a 40s or 50s era triangular marquee which replaced the original traditional canopy marquee. Built in 1925, the LaGrange Theatre was originally a live theatre bringing the most popular acts of that time to LaGrange.   As the entertainment industry changed, the theatre was converted to motion pictures in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. Operated by Chicago's Balaban & Katz chain during the 30s, 40s and 50s, the LaGrange remains in business today, divided into four screens in the 90s.
